Sabe o cara do brunch? Entao, ele e' o maximo! Lindo, carinhoso, inteligente bla bla bla. E ele tem uma loja de cards e quadrinhos!!! No primeiro date quando eu vi ele a minha reacao foi "uau"! E ele gostou de mim tambem! Na segunda ele fez jantar pra mim e ces acreditam que ele tinha feito caipirinha? Achou a receita ne internet e foi atras de cachaca. E fez direitinho! E depois do nosso primeiro date ele escreveu no dia seguinte falalndo que ainda tava com um sorriso no rosto! Super fofo!
Hoje eu vou encontrar um outro cara, mas e' tao estranho, porque eu fico com o Matt na cabeca o tempo todo! Mas eu disse pra mim mesma que dessa vez ia ser diferente: nao vou ter pressa, nao vou investir tudo logo de cara. Minha irma ja' ta' me zoando, perguntou quando que eu vou me mudar pra casa dele. Eu ja' disse que se eu disser que vou fazer isso, e' pra ela me algemar no corrimao da escada e nao deixar!
Enfim, meu humor ta' otimo, meu ego ta' la' em cima e, mais importante, ja' to conseguindo deixar o ingles pra tras!

Fui num brunch hoje com um cara super gracinha! Segunda vez que a gente se ve. E ele ja' perguntou como estao meus horarios semana que vem... Encontrei um outro cara duas vezes tambem, mas esse outro nao acho que vai dar em nada. Na quinta vou encontrar um que eu ja' conversei bastante no telefone e messenger, super fofo tambem! Tudo date americano, so' jantar, conversar, sem compromisso! Ta' sendo bom ver outros caras, ta' sendo bom pra minha auto-estima: to sendo paparicada, ouvindo um monte de elogios. Fora que tem varios outros caras que mostraram interesse, mas eu descartei. Devia ja' ter tentado isso faz tempo!

My dissertation proposal was approved. I just have to finish it now!

Champions again!

The UConn Women's Basketball team were the 2009 NCAA champions! It looks like that's one of the only way my university gets in the news!

New year, new post. Nothing really new. Just looks like I might finally have a topic for a third chapter. I'm working on it and keeping my fingers crossed.

Apple, wow!!

My HD crashed... I took it to the Genius Bar and they took it in to replace it, even though 5 days had passed after the warranty expiration date they had (which is wrong, but I'll fix it later). Anyway, the repair was ready on the same day and didn't cost me a dime. They also replaced the optical drive.
Because the HD was replaced, all the data in the old one was gone. But I had been using Time Machine to back up on an external HD. Today I plugged the backup HD and wow!! With the press of a button, my new HD is EXACTLY like the old one (except for the crash!), including all the programs, user settings, cookies etc etc. I didn't have to go after passwords and stuff, it's as if nothing happened. I'm really happy with Time Machine and with Apple's service. Another detail: I DON"T have Apple Care, that's all standard treatment. You pay a bit more for the computer, but it's really worth it. Now I'll recommend Apple even more! It's like insurance: you only know how good it really is when an accident happens!

Conference!

I'm in Reno, Nevada now for a conference. But it's not a Linguistics conference!! It's POD (Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education). It's actually a relief to be at something non-linguistic. Things feel a lot more relaxed. Faculty development is an area I've been interested in for a while and here I'll have the chance to meet some prospective employers and hopefully future colleagues.

Elections in Brazil!

Since I'm in Brazil this week, I was able to go and vote yesterday. I hadn't voted in so long here, it felt good!
Elections this year were for mayor and city representative. We're a huge city here, so it's an important election. Too bad I won't be able to vote in the second round, though.
